South Korean gaming company Krafton, the maker of PUBG and BGMI, is reportedly in early but serious talks to buy a minority stake in the IPL team Rajasthan Royals, as reported by CNBC-TV18. If this deal goes through, it would be Krafton’s first move outside gaming, marking its entry into India’s mainstream sports world. Check out the KRAFTON x IPL Team full information below.
Krafton x IPL Team?
The news was first reported by sports journalist Venkat Ananth, and later confirmed by CNBC-TV18. The channel reached out to both Krafton and Rajasthan Royals on December 4, but neither has responded yet.
This possible investment is an important step in Krafton’s long-term India plans. After PUBG was banned in 2020, the company returned with BGMI, which quickly became one of India’s most downloaded and highest-earning mobile games.
Krafton Dismisses IPL Investment Rumors as “Utterly Speculative
“KRAFTON India is committed to building deeper India-first gaming experiences, as has been our stated ambition. While we continue to evaluate multiple partnerships aligned with this strategic vision, it is extremely premature to link them to any specific outcomes. Furthermore, any reports related to investments, potential or otherwise, in IPL franchises are completely and utterly speculative.” – Krafton’s comment

Krafton to buy stake in Rajasthan Royals
The timing of Krafton’s interest is important because the Rajasthan Royals is currently in the middle of a stake sale process. The team’s owners are considering new minority investors and may even sell a majority stake.
The franchise is valued at over $1 billion, making it one of the top IPL teams after the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The Rajasthan Royals is mainly owned by Manoj Badale’s Emerging Media (around 65%), with RedBird Capital and Lachlan Murdoch also holding stakes.
By investing in an IPL team, Krafton aims to strengthen its presence in India’s sports and entertainment market, connecting digital gaming with live sports.
